TRACK SAFETY

Karting Australia Club Safety Officer Information

Your club will have a Safety Officer who overseas Track Safety among other things but in reality, Track Safety is something that all club members should have some focus on.

The best way to look at track safety is from a risk point of view – how likely (or unlikely) is something to happen, what would be the consequence if that did happen? By looking at your track this way, areas that need attention can become clearer and priorities can be set for work the club would like to do.

It is also important to remember that as human beings we all make mistakes and that can include karters – there are times a driver may make an error or there is a mechanical fault on a car and it’s important to bear this in mind when considering track safety.

Track Safety is not just about the physical track and equipment around it but also about the way the track is operated – systems and procedures can sometimes be reviewed and improved. Karting Australia has some resources to assist you, such as the Track Construction and Safety Guide and you have a State Track Inspector, State Association and the Karting Australia National Track Safety Committee as resources that you can use to help you manage the safety of your track.

Karting Australia also has financial resources for you such as Track Safety Grants that can be applied for and Track Development funds to assist you in the cost of track works and track safety works.

For more information on financial assistance options, please talk to your State Office.

If you are planning a new track, additions to an existing track or significant changes to an existing track, Karting Australia have resources such as the National Track Safety Committee and National Competition Committee to assist you in designing and developing your track.  Karting Australia has a New Circuit / Circuit Extension Policy that will assist you in understanding the process and what assistance Karting Australia can provide you.
